LELAND COMET HISTORY
The Leland Comets are the athletic teams representing Leland Public School (Ty’s wife Johanna is a 1992 LPS grad) in Leland. The Leland Comets athletic programs have a rich history filled with hard-fought seasons, state championships, and more. The Leland Comets Legacy Fund was established in 2021 to sustain the history and tradition of athletic excellence.
The Comets have achieved notable success in various sports, including a historic run in boys soccer, where they reached the MHSAA Final for the first time in school history. In 2023, the Comets achieved their 22nd district title in school history in volleyball, despite having a roster of only seven players.
The Leland Comets Legacy Fund was created to support and sustain the athletic programs that might not otherwise be fully funded in the school budget. They strive to maintain the tradition of excellence and provide financial assistance for the programs.
